You hate lawyers? Please see my point.?

my mother and father always says that i should be a lawyer because i have the material for it. sometimes i feel good that my parents believe that i will become a successful lawyer and study at Oxford. but seeing some of the other questions on Yahoo about how much people hate lawyers and it seems that they don't have a good reputation. about people saying that they turn the truth into lies, help the guilty to become innocent and i know thats probably what the vast majority of you think right?but to my mind, i think there are lots of good lawyers out there and the few bad ones spoil it for the good ones, and its not just lawyers. few bad people spoil it for the god ones its happening everyday. certain things we can't do at school because of the ones who cant behave themselves etc. my friend says she doesn't like lawyers because they make money out of peoples problems. but what about doctors? they make money because some people are dying? yet we don't hate them nor should we. im not saying that we should hate doctors, they are important and i thank them but isn't it the same? if i become a lawyer i know that i wouldn't turn the truth into lies but it hurts to know that some people might hate me because of some bad people. i just want people to see that they are important in our world and we should not hate them because of a few bad ones. however, i respect your thoughts if you have a reason. i am sorry if i have offended you in anyway but this is what I think.

  1. I hate both doctors and lawyers. They both make money off of other people's suffering and hardship and should not be respected.
  2. Everyone hates lawyers until they need one. This is the same truth with doctors and car salesmen.
  3. I think lawyers serve a vital function because they help people and corporations (and governments) take action and protect their rights in the world. Lawyers are neither all good nor all bad. They're like any other group of people. Some are wonderful people who entered the profession to make a difference for others who have been wronged. Other lawyers are jerks who want to make millions of dollars on others' pain. You should be a lawyer, if you think you can make a difference. What kind of lawyer you are is up to you -- your heart, your mind, and your sense of right and wrong.
  4. The majority of lawyers do tend to be seen on the same level as estate agents... money grabbing, lying and cheating for their own gains, well before their clients. They seem to be a breed that will work for the highest bidder whether they agree or disagree with the clients point of view. Anyone charging upwards of £150 an hour for pushing paperwork is setting themselves up for verbal potshots really. And so are lawyers.
  5. i don't have a problem with lawyers and thinking about being one. i don't think you should worry about that other people hate lawyers. and doctors help people get better. not worse.
  6. I can't stand lawyers, I got in a car accident and this lady lied in court and got away with it and my insurance company payed her a good sum of money. most of them are crooked I do know some that are the exception as you stated. If it makes you feel better I wanted to go into broadcasting until I realized they aren't much different than lawyers, and I decided I don't want to be in broadcasting because I would basically be a spokesperson for the DNC. It's not even just liberal bias, they can bias almost anything just a comment after something, an opinion thrown in somewere, so I sort of understand. I say do what you want to do, if people don't like Lawyers but that is what you want to do, then be a lawyer.
  7. there are bad examples in every career. being a nurse, i've met several bad doctors, but most of them are intelligent and very good at what they do, and where would we be without them? they do make money off people's problems, but so do mechanics. it's a service that they spend a lot of time studying for and should be acknowledged for, monetarily speaking. I don't think that they turn facts into lies as much as learn how to manipulate the truth in favour of their client - that's their job - that is what you pay them for. The law, i think is a lot of individual interpretation. If you want to be a lawyer, go for it. don't worry about what people you don't know think - just don't invite them on your yacht...
  8. I do not hate lawyers, I just think they're a bunch of snobs in the worst sense and meaning of the word. I worked for ten years as a cleaner in the Inner Temple. They just look down their noses at everyone, including their rich clients. Anyone with an education should know that without the 'workers' they could not enjoy the life which they do. For it is we, the workers, who clear up their mess, carry them to the ambulance and take care of their every need. Quite often you are unaware of our presence, but we are always there, to serve, it's what we do. In return, I'll take a modest wage and be spoken to politely and not be ignored or looked down upon. I met one of these snobbish lawyers at a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace. I was chatting to Prince Andrew, he was not. I just hope the above makes the point. If I'm good enough for the Queen's son, then I'm good enough for a toff lawyer. Edit: Law Joke - A man stands in the dock before the beak. The judge asks the accused, "have you been up before me before?" The accused replies, "I don't know milud, what time do you get up in the morning?" Q: What is the difference between a lawyer and a prostitute? A: None, they both solicit for trade. Comment: "Best place for lawyers is the House of Commons. We can keep an eye on them in there." Comment: "The lawyer is employed to tell lies in court on behalf of the guilty client."
  9. You're right. Bad lawyers get a lot press, so do the ambulance chasers on TV. But there's a lot of lawyers who do a great job every day and go completely unnoticed. I think the problem with a lot of people is that they expect too much. They think that if you throw some money at a lawyer, they'll make everything go your way. Maybe they can, but be realistic. Their job is to defend their client as zealously as the law will allow and they are not there to hold back. It's funny, people criticize lawyers until they need one, and they ask for the meanest, sneakiest, nastiest one that can be found. If you're going to be a lawyer, you just need to get used to it. And just a thought: remember that line from Shakespeare "First thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers."? Do you why they said that? Because those characters want to put a false king on the throne and they knew the lawyers would prevent it from happening. You might want to remind smeone of that the next time you hear that quote.
  10. Well you could end up like that greedy bitch Cherry Blair
  11. I personally dont hate lawyers or doctors. I do not like doctors who dont care about you and i dont like lawyers who only want your money. They are all not the same though, so if your thinking of being a laywer, be a good one and then people will respect you.
  12. I was, some years ago, responsible for representing people against a very large industry. As sums of money were often involved I had to weigh evidence concerning the obvious and less obvious facts. A colleague would knowingly represent an obviously guilty person where the evidence was clearly pointing to the guilty one. I would not represent the guilty but would take the case of the 'grey area' hoping that I would convince the industrial side of the 'not proven' issue. Where there was clear evidence of innocence, I would be like a tiger and fight with all my might for a Not Guilty result. Obviously, if money is at stake, the loser would no longer want to employ the individual suspected of theft but often there are details missed at first and found on examination. I performed this functio free of charge. Lawyers are different. Their brief is to represent anyone who tells them that they are Not Guilty. Notice I say 'tell'. It can never be certain that a felon is telling the truth!
  13. Dont have a problem with lawyers really, as long as they remember that they , are the employee, so many have this "great nack " of turning the situation round, and you come away feeling like you are working for them, having trouble with one now over property.
  14. Wharfie, you don't take up a career because your parents like the thought of it. You must do what you enjoy. Law is hard work and unless you are committed, you will find it tough going. It is nonsense about lawyers turning the truth into lies. If you are a litigation lawyer and appear in court, you simply put the case for your client in the best light and if you have reason to know that your client is lying, then you stop representing him. Most lawyers don't go to court: they work from their offices. While people tend to see them with problems, a good lawyer is able to assist with solving those problems, or at least facing up to them and dealing with them as best they can. Some lawyers don't see very much of the problems in people's lives and simply help them with positive things like making wills and buying and selling land. I have yet to see people shun anyone for being a lawyer: it's far more likely that they'll make a fuss of that person and try to get free legal advice. Do what you want to do and don't be too influenced by other people's opinions. It's your life.
  15. I dont hate lawyers. I hate the attitude of the legal system that allows repeat paedophiles to walk free while a kid who gets hooked on drugs is locked instead of being helped. Laywers dont turn truth into lies, they manipulate the system to secure a result. In fact they are not allowed to represent a person they believe is guilty or who confesses to them they are guilty. Not all lawyers are bad, but the premise you will have to learn if you become a lawyer is that noone is guilty until the jury says they are guilty. Its a hard concept to get your head around. You know the person did the crime, I know the person did the crime but he is not guilty unless the jury knows he did the crime. Just make sure law is a career you want to go into. Dont do it for your parents. Follow your passions, follow your dreams. If you want to know what law is really like get some work experience in a local legal firm. Then you will know wether it suits you or not.
  16. my ex gf is a human rights lawyer only dodgy governments hate her....
  17. Lawyers are good and bad like every profession. I have good friends who are honest hard working lawyers. The problem is if you get a bad one. They know the law and how to get round it. I have to say I have had a bad experience of a lawyer who forgot to tell the truth for me. He is still a high flying £150k a year lawyer I nearly lost everything. Don't forget a lawyer represents a person even if the crime is so bad he knows the client should be hung. That's the British system and lawyers make a fortune out of it.
  18. If you listened and took note to some people on Yahoo then you wouldn't take up any profession. I'm a UK cop and we get slated all the time on here. Half of the people are ill informed and have nothing better to do with their time. The way I look at is, I do my best to the best of my ability. I am honest and have principles, which I adhere to. In every profession, including mine there are people who give you a bad name. Generally these people are in a minority and anyone with a little intellect will realise this. You sound more than intelligent enough to realise this. Work hard and reap the benefits of a successful career. Whatever you do you will have your detractors. Just don't let them get to you. Good luck
  19. Why don't you specialise as a lawyer you don't just have to deal with criminal cases. What about acting for Social Services, Fighting corporate crime etc etc
  20. I like my Lawyer, he's one of the old fashioned type, straight as a arrow. Real good guy
