Do lawyers send bills to get paid?
Exhusband went back to court with Exwife/children over moving to a different location. The court ordered a kids lawyer. Eventually Exhusband won and family stayed. Kids lawyer is suppose to be paid by both parents equally. The kids lawyer called the Exhusband about payment. The Exhusband asked for a bill and it was never sent. Now the lawyer mailed a letter to Exhusbands Commanding Officer(military). If this lawyer wants to get paid shouldnt she send a bill? Exhusband just wants something in writing so he knows what he is paying for? Kids lawyer stated in letter that she would like to resolve before further action is required. Could this go on his credit report? Dont lawyers send bills normally? Can they just call and say Pay me?

- lawyers do everything in writing. ask them to send another bill.
- Lawyers usually post letters specifying the amount required. It is better to meet the lawyer in her office regarding the payment.
- sure do
- Don't think so. They always hang out at the graveyards in planet of apes. Waiting like vultures for any skeleton of skull and bones to dig up hiding in the closet in planet of apes. The skeleton of skull and bones in hand is their success in making it to the home-run in cashing out the checks in planet of apes.
- evidently the lawyer just wants to get the money-without question. I have sued lawyers before-contact the clerk of court and explain the situation-if you are being unjustly billed and will have bad credit. if you are directly involved -otherwise know you are being used and put into the middle of something to give sympathy. from one once used -I repented of my own sins-even one lie and let Jesus into my heart to forgive me and help me with directions and life, John 3 repented and born again-now Jesus is my comforter director and best friend. prayin for you all will go well, David
- Yes they should have sent a bill/statement. I would go into the office and ask for one or send a letter to the attorney requesting that they send a bill. I would send it certified returned receipt. That way you have a record that you requested it.
- Yes and you shouldn't pay any "bill" to a lawyer without seeing an itemized statement. The bill should include line items of the specific dates/times/services performed. A typical attorney's bill has many lines each with a portion of hours that the attorney worked and a billing rate for each lawyer that the firm used. For example, you should see: 4/01 - .50 SJW phone calls/consultation with client $150 this line assumes a bill rate of $300 for the attorney with initials SJW for 30 minutes of work on 4/1. Some attorneys do not provide this much detail, but most reputable attorneys have billing systems that can provide most or all of this informaiton. At a minimum, you should be able to find out # of hours worked, bill rate, and some description of the work performed. I would call the attorney, ask to speak to the billing department, and tell them you would be happy to pay the bill, but you need an itemized bill that includes the information above. Tell them you WILL NOT be paying any amounts without seeing the bill. Obviously, when dealing with attorneys, you have to proceed with caution, because they do know the laws. However, I doubt an attorney would turn over any amounts to a collection agency without having sent a bill. Good luck.
- Laywers DO send bills. The lawyer should indeed send a detailed bill in writing. I do!
- It depends on how fat you are!
