1. What kind of legal advice are you looking for? Need to know the general topic to see if it might qualify for help from Legal Aid. Also, you need to prove income and necessity for legal services for Legal Aid. Their budgets are being cut a lot of places and they are overloaded with work in the best of times. Some types of legal work cannot be obtained for free anywhere at any time. State bar associations have a referral service you can call to find an attorney who does work in the area you need. Initial consultations are budget-priced, usually no more than $50. If the attorney thinks you need representation and is willing to take you on, then he will tell what work needs to be done and what it will cost. He will tell you whether it can be done on a flat fee, hourly or what, how much retainer will be required, or if it is something that can be done on contingent fee.
2. I used JustAnswer (www.justanswer.com) recently - I just wanted a very basic answer and it was OK. From memory it cost me US$30 but I don't think you could use them for a complex legal issue.
3. Some more info might be helpful. I'm a small business owner, just finished law school, and I love to help people when going after big corps, or to just help the little guy in the same situation as me. (going to sue ATT for the second time soon!, I won the first time) So how about some details. but since you asked, free legal advice: carry liability insurance, defamation is difficult to prove, you can be sued for anything
