Can someone give me legal advice please?

I know there may be questions asking where to get legal advice but I just want the general advice of others before I seek it. I left a few of my belongings with a friend, who agreed to look after them. I have now asked my friend to return them and he is claiming he "doesn't know where they are". I have my doubts over whether or not he still has the belongings or whether he has sold them. Their collective value amounts to over £150 so any advice would be appreciated do I have any chance of getting them back. I am in the UK. I left my belongings with a friend. These belongings where with him for 12 months, and during those 12 months he had contact with me throughout

1. First things first, how long did you ask your friend to look after your belongings? Has your friend been able to get in touch with you throughout the time he has had your things? In certain state in the USA, if you leave items with someone for over 30 days and they cannot contact you, it is considered "abandoned property" and therefore the person can do what they want with it.
